Solar Q&A
How do solar panels work?
Solar panels contain photovoltaic cells that convert sunlight directly into electricity. When sunlight hits these cells, it creates an electrical current that flows through an inverter, which converts it from DC to AC power that your home or business can use. Any excess electricity can be stored in batteries or fed back to the grid.
How long do solar panels last?
Our quality Solar Panels (PV) are designed to last 25 to 30 years or more. While their efficiency decreases slightly over time (typically about 0.5% per year), panels often continue producing electricity between 5 and 10 years. Extended warranty is possible. Inverters typically last 10 to 15 years and may need replacement during the system’s lifetime.
Will my solar panels work during a power outage?
No, during blackouts or power failures, solar panels automatically disconnect for safety reasons. However, if you add a battery storage system, you can have backup power during outages.
Are there any monthly fees for having solar panels?
Yes, Elmar charges a grid usage fee of Afl. 15 for each kWp of your system capacity for residential and commercial customers. Residential customers will receive 3 kWp discount. There are also one-time connection fees and inspection costs.
Do solar panels increase my property value?
Yes, solar installations typically increase property value as they represent a valuable asset that reduces ongoing electricity costs for future owners.
How much can I save with solar panels in Aruba?
Most homeowners and businesses see significant reductions in their electricity bills, often 50, 80%, and even 100% more. The exact savings depend on your current energy consumption, system size, and usage patterns. With Aruba’s high electricity costs and abundant sunshine, solar typically pays for itself within 3-5 years.
Do I need batteries?
Batteries aren’t required but offer significant benefits, including backup power during outages and the ability to store excess energy for use at night. We’ll discuss whether battery storage makes sense based on your energy goals, budget, and whether your area experiences frequent power interruptions.
Can I install solar if I'm part of a homeowners association?
Most HOAs cannot prohibit solar installations, though they may have guidelines about placement and appearance. We have experience working with HOA requirements and can help navigate any approval processes.
Can I Finance my Solar System?
Commercial and Residential customers have the option to finance the solar and / or battery system through B-Energy. Conditions apply and a lease agreement will need to be signed. A down payment is a requirement in most cases. However, B-Energy is available to present the options that is tailored to your specific situation.
Are solar panels recyclable?
Yes, solar panels are recyclable. The glass, aluminum frames, and semiconductor materials can all be recovered and reused. As the solar industry matures, recycling infrastructure continues to expand, ensuring responsible end-of-life management for solar equipment.
